| What to Expect from your Treatment |
Goodbody Physical Rehabilitation provides a comfortable relaxing atmosphere and encourages
your feedback and questions. During your
appointment, Dr. Goodbody will ask you to explain what your problem is and ask various
questions that may prompt you to say something that you may not believe is related to your
problem. This helps us determine the cause of your problem. After an extensive and thorough evaluation is
performed, an assessment and diagnosis of the cause of your problem will be
explained to you in detail. Questions will be addressed and, if appropriate, a specific
treatment program developed to meet your needs will be created. At times your condition
may require additional testing and or further evaluative procedures. If this is the case,
appropriate measures will be taken by our staff in order to facilitate optimal care for
your condition.
|
| Typically
there are "phases" regarding treatment. The initial phase is to control
pain and or inflammation. The second phase is to stabilize and or optimize movement (if
appropriate) depending on the extent of your complaint. The final phase of care
relates to the rehabilitative process mainly consisting of active participation on the
part of you, the patient. Of course, these phases overlap. Generally,
treatment is initially rendered on a two to three visit per week basis. After
approximately two weeks of care, you will be re-evaluated for further consideration
regarding your treatment plan. Exceptions to the above mentioned generally
exist. |

Who
Are Physical Therapists
Physical therapists, or PTs, are healthcare professionals who evaluate and treat people
with health problems resulting from injury or disease. PTs assess joint motion,
muscle strength and endurance, function of heart and lungs, and performance of activities
required in daily living, among other responsibilities. Treatment includes
therapeutic exercise, cardiovascular endurance training, and training in activities of
daily living. A Physical Therapist must earn a baccalaureate degree in physical therapy
from an accredited educational program, with the majority of programs offering master's
degree in PT. For additional information:

Who
are Chiropractors
Chiropractic care is a drug-free, non-surgical science that does not include
pharmaceuticals or incisive surgery. Chiropractors use a variety of diagnostic and
therapeutic procedures that adjust and manipulate functional disorders of the spinal
column, musculoskeletal or neurological relationships. Practice and procedures employed by
Chiropractors are based on the academic and clinical training received in and through
accredited chiropractic colleges. A new study published in the September 1998 issue of
Alternative Therapies says that "chiropractic and medical curricula are more similar
than dissimilar and that educational programs differ most in clinical practice."
